We’re on the home run now, and whilst we have still been productive, I can feel the pace slowing down for all of us. Hours and hours are now being spent in the little house playing the make believe games that childhood is made of. It is the culmination of all our hard work over the past seven weeks and it is a joy to see.

I wrote yesterday about how I put together these costumes, so if you’d like some more info pop over and read that post. Basically, although nothing was made from scratch, I altered dresses to make skirts, curtains to make aprons and waist aprons to make an overall apron for B2. I bought in the hats at £2.39 a piece and spent less than £10 in total for all four costumes. We were all very pleased with how they all turned out!
Of course once they had their dress up, we absolutely had to throw a tea party. L10 helped A4 make fresh lemonade:
Whilst C10 and B2 made biscuits to serve at the tea party:
And much fun was had, as they set out their great Granny’s china:
In addition to the dress up, we had kept ourselves fairly busy with some small projects. C10 made an extra dish cloth and two tea towels to go with our sink unit:
L10 and I made some curtains or the downstairs:
Whilst we were busy with our needle and thread, T11 was busy making a butter press out of an enamel oil holder, a wooden disc and stick:
Together with Daddy he made a great, yet very simple sink unit for the little house. Sometimes things turn out just as you’ve imagined them and this was one of those things. I can’t tell you how pleased I am with it:
We were able to pick some of A4’s radishes from her kitchen garden:
And finally we made some cod balls using a recipe from The Little House Cookbook. These were a huge hit, and I will definitely be making them again:
We have only three weeks left, and as I already have the last week planned, we actually only have two weeks of activities left to do. Next week will be all about the laundry and finishing up all the activities we have started but not completed (ahem – yes, I do realise that there are quite a few!).

My wish has come true…lovely pictures of your family dressed up and in the little house. I love them. The tea party is wonderful. And look at all the new things…the butter churn, the sink, the tea towel. Top it all off with a radish harvest and some cod cakes. Wow. What a wonderful week.

What a fantastic summer project it’s been! It’s so lovely that the kids are enjoying their make believe time and learning all these great skills along the way.
It is really special watching them play, knowing that most of the stuff they are playing with is stuff they made themselves!

It has been great fun. It was definitely a good choice for this summer as I’ve managed to relax, yet the children have been kept busy (and therefore out of mischief!)
