We read these books each day:

The original book at the top of the picture talks about the naughty things Little Miss Naughty did on each day of the week.  I had made A5 a ‘Days of the Week’ box for her to learn to recognise the words and sight-read them; to introduce the idea of yesterday, today and tomorrow to them both and for A5 to read and order the days of the week:

I also photocopied the front of the books we had already covered, cutting out the title from the picture.  I then asked A5 to match the name to the character picture.  I thought this would be a fun way of increasing her sight words of some very useful adjectives (all the Mr Men’s names are adjectives of some sort):

Using the good fairy book, we touched upon the fantasy element of fairies and also the difference between being good and being naughty.  The book illustrates how the good fairy was unable to be naughty, and how good happened to everyone her wand came in contact with, even if the wand was in the hands of Little Miss Naughty.  We talked about how it is better to spread good cheer than naughty chaos.

Using the Little Miss Naughty worries Mr Worry book, I introduced A5 to the idea of there always being a consequence to any choice.  We went through the book with me asking her to explain the consequence that Mr worry was worried about.

Again she practiced writing her name and also a sentence I had printed out using this program:

Maths

I had made A5 a Mr Men measuring box, which she asks to play with all of the time:

This week was about her familiarizing herself with all the tools inside the box.  I didn’t set her much specific work, instead let her play with the box whenever she asked.  One thing I did ask her to do was guess which Mr Men character was the widest and then measure them with her Mr Men ruler to see if she was right:

In addition to this, I photocopied  a counting and addition to ten book from this website.  She did a few pages whenever she wanted to:

Art

I obtained a few purple paint strips, showing lots of different shades of purple which A5 attempted to find the shade that matched the closest to Little Miss Naughty:

Afterwards, I let her cut up the strips and paste the scraps of paint chip paper onto a colouring in sheet of little Miss Naughty:

We also had a handy ‘how to’ in the Christmas edition of Mr Men, which taught both A5 and L11 to draw a Little Miss Naughty:

Modelling

C11 is my highly imaginative child and I am in awe of the natural ease with which she manages to come up with fun activities for the little ones to do.  In this case they modelled some Mr Men and Little Miss characters out of plasticine.  Most would have left it at that, but not C11.  She and A5 then proceeded to put on an elaborate play using the plasticine as the puppets:

I added to the ‘Make a Mr Men’ box the makings of a Little Miss Naughty.  They are building up quite a collection and I’m waiting for some peculiar characters to be formed, but as yet the girls stick with what they know:

Easy Peasy Recipe: Cinnamon tortilla chips

This week we made some sugar and cinnamon tortilla chips.  These are one of the easiest and tastiest snack foods to make:

If I had thought to, I guess we could have cut the tortilla into Mr Men shapes using our biscuit cutter.  Next time maybe!

We’ll be learning about Mr Happy and Little Miss Neat over the next couple of weeks, focussing on opposites.
