Christmas is usually our silly manic period, but this year we decided to try to recreate the relaxed Christmases we always took for granted in Ireland. I have a few activities which the children have written on slips of paper and popped into our Advent calendar:
These are simple activities, some we do every year such as make some cinnamon and apple sauce decorations:
others are simple home-made fun activities like paper chain making and snow flake cutting:
We will continue with our maths each morning, and the little ones have their Mr Men school to finish, whilst A6 needs to complete a few last lessons in her All About Reading Level one. We may also familiarise ourselves with Cover Story, our new writing curriculum, and start the first few lessons.
Blog-wise, I also intend to keep things simple. I want to catch up on posting about Mr Men school; I may well write a few Christmas posts along the way and of course I will be posting my weekly Precious Memories post. I also want to do a bit of rejigging of posts and pages on Angelicscalliwags, and tidying things up a bit.
On the home front, we have decided to use the space downstairs (which was a school room) as an extra bedroom. At the moment our four girls share one room. This isn’t working so well because of the different bedtime and wake time (especially the wake time). The two little ones will be coming downstairs to sleep. Gary’s dad is very kindly coming over after Christmas to help knock through doors and erect walls to create this bedroom. This means I need to be decluttering even more than usual because the room which would have stored a lot of our school things is now not going to be available for that purpose. We are sad to be losing our new school room but the whole family believe this to be the solution which will help everyone meet their sleeping needs.
We also have a Mr Men Christmas tea party to prepare for; the rather lovely activity of Christmas shopping (which we have nearly finished) and our usual annual Christmas party, which will be a little bigger this year with the addition of one other special family (Lorna and Co.) and will include singing carols on the green. Add those to various Christmas concerts that the children are in and we have ourselves a full, but not too busy, Christmas season.

That all sounds very nice. Our four girls shared a room at our old house – it is much better having the older and younger girls apart now – they do sleep more. I’m hoping to get a chance to read your Mr. Men post better. Skimming through it, the book covers look so familiar to me, but I’m not sure why…maybe from childhood…
They came out around the time I was born, so they’ve been around for a while!
They are really great books. I’m not sure one ever grows out of them!
I’m hoping for a calm Christmas, but if this week is any indication, it’s not going to be. Of course part of that is because I decided to pack as much school as I can in this week in hopes of not doing any after this….

Oh, four (giggling) girls in one bedroom, I guess it´s better to seperate them… But I liked your study room too!
I know, it seems a shame but my youngest two rise at 5 every morning and although they play (fairly) quietly they wake up the girls who need their sleep now they are heading towards teenagedom.

I know how much you were looking forward to your school room, but I understand about bedrooms. All of ours have their own, and as they are getting older, it is important to have their own space. I do threaten to put them all in one room so I can have a room for my sewing and books. Then I remind myself that day will come soon enough and I will have more extra rooms than I want.
We are having an old-fashioned Christmas at our home. We are having a live tree for the first time since we’ve been married. I am looking forward to it. We are making all our decorations and presents, too. Santa will visit, too, I am quite sure. I have been planning this since last Christmas, and here I am in December with only one gift finished completely.
I hope you have a wonderful Christmas season. Don’t work too hard on your new room.

The main problem is that my older girls are not getting enough sleep. They go to bed fairly early (8) so I don’t feel I can ask them to go any earlier, but the little ones are awake at 5 each morning. It just isn’t working anymore, and as we do have the space downstairs we felt it might be worth making a new bedroom downstairs.

I can relate to having 4 girls in one room…thankfully it has worked for us and allowed us an extra room for all the books and supplies that we need for homeschooling. Enjoy keeping things simple and have fun with the construction project.
