Am I perhaps spending too much time at the screen?

How does a mum know when she has spent too much time looking at the screen and not paying enough attention to, y’know, important stuff like family….?

Maybe when your son sends you an email, asking if you think the egg he is cooking is cooked?

Can you believe it?  The kitchen is about two meters away from my current position at the computer and he chooses to send me an email banking on the fact that I will be more likely to pay attention to his email than his actual person carrying a frying pan.

Yes, this is the sad state of affairs right now at the Angelicscalliwags home.  It’s every man for himself at the moment, cooked egg or not.  Mummy is school planning Shakespeare and has no time to actually mother…or cook…or talk…

I really need to take the hint and not spend quite so much time with Shakespeare and a bit more time with my family.

On a serious note, I knew I would be very busy for four weeks planning this summer and the older children have been fab-u-lous, making sure the younger two are kept busy and happy, as well as making breakfast and lunch each day and willingly providing me with as many cups of tea as I need.  Thank you children.  I know you are looking forward to this summer as  much as I am and I am very grateful for your wonderful support.  Only another two weeks and you will have your mother back and you won’t need to send me photos of undercooked food….

  1. Hm. I have to say that is typical t. A very smart idea. Don’t worry, we are some of the best educated children around! We understand we would not be as smart as we are if you didn’t spend copious amounts of time on the computer! You have brought us up well!! cxx

  2. Ha ha that’s brilliant. I thought I’d seen a lot of Shakespeare interest on Pinterest recently.

  3. There is a Shakespeare Week by the Trust in March of each year, with many, many suggestions of activities. They are already planning the one for 2016. If you are interested or you cannot find the address, let me know.
Myra, from sunny hot Winnipeg, Canada, where we are in a hot, hot spell.

  4. I certainly can relate to this situation. I’m not receiving emails from my children, but I could definitely send a few to them! This is a constant battle of will at my home, too. Technology can be a great thing, but I am slowly seeing that it can be a hindrance to connecting with my kids, too. When doing lesson planning it’s a tough call, because it’s for a good cause. I’ve been sitting this morning just considering how to reign in the time my kids spend online(and other gadgets as well), but set a good example with my own use. Say a pray for me!

    1. We’ve just set a blanket rule of one hour screen time for everyone bar me. I say bar me because it takes me waaaaaay longer than an hour a day to plan their school. Everyone else’s time has been successfully curbed. Of course I’ll pray!

  5. My 9 year old has requested we study Shakespeare this coming school year as well. Can’t wait to see your approach!

  6. LOL! That’s great. I get texts from my daughter a room away all the time… “What should I have for snack?”. “I’ve finished my chores, can I goof off now?” I guess it’s easier than tracking me down in the house.

    1. Lol. Glad it’s not just mine. Although that was a first. I’m kind of hoping it won’t become the norm. I mean, I actually do like to have verbal communication with my children!

    1. LOL! He bought it himself from money he earns in a small gardening job he has and he has to pay for the calls completely himself. It has no internet connection.
I’m thinking he probably would have considered himself luckier if we had paid for it and maintained it…..!!
