Around the World in 80 Days: Week Three – Typhoons, Japan and Acrobatics

The last thing we covered during week three was Passepartoute’s journey to Japan and his time spent there trying to earn food to feed himself.  He sailed straight to Yokohama from Hong Kong.  Fogg was not so fortunate.  He had to catch a much smaller boat to Shanghai (which coincidentally he missed!) sailing through a typhoon in order to catch the steamer to Nagazaki and then onwards to Yokohama.  We have already covered Japan in one of our FIAR units but did a little bit of map work marking out Fogg’s route from Hong Kong to Yokohama, as well as a bit of research on typhoons (which I keep calling tycoons), and looked into the circus and Japanese acrobats.
