Wildly Improbable New Years Resolutions ๐Ÿ˜‰

Okay, are you ready for this? Well, I’m not sure I am…These goals are whopping (for me, anyway), scary and I can almost guarantee that I shall fail at pretty much all of them.

But I’m okay with that.

I will have tried, and that is enough for me. I am going to take a leaf out of my children’s books, who are weirdly confident about anything they try to do. They completely believe the world is theirs to conquer.

I am a little more timid.

How I managed to bring up such warriors I shall never know. It is a true reason to believe in miracles โค๏ธ

Anyway, I digress. My goals.

(takes a deep breath)

Here goes.

My big whopping one, which I am almost too scared to post, and know I shall regret posting the moment it goes live, is that I am going to start my own YouTube channel. My goal is to post a video once a week, which will go along with a post I will write.

I figure that far from doing nothing for the past twenty years, I have effectively had an (albeit unpaid) job in education. I’d call myself a teacher, but I don’t want to insult all those wonderful teachers who went to uni and got a degree in teaching. I do not have that. But I do have experience in teaching multiple children of different ages in the home.

So I thought I’d start a home school channel.

My wonderful, ever supportive husband has invested in this and bought me a Mac which has Final Cut Pro on it.

My long suffering (and extremely patient) son has spent copious amounts of time trying to teach me how to use it and has configured many many things I had no clue even needed to be configured. And I certainly had no idea how to actually go about configuring.

My daughters all want to be guests and my mother thinks it’s a grand idea.

Although she is a little bit concerned about whether or not I will have the courage to, y’know, actually do it.

As do I

I am all ready to go, but can’t bear the thought of my face being on film. Hmm. It’s a conundrum I have thought long and hard about. Whether to just have my voice over some random home educational pictures? Or maybe me baking a cake, with the camera pointed at my hand? Or…

I’ve gone through every scenario I can to avoid being in front of the camera, but to be honest, I think I am going to just have pick up my big girl knickers and press record, with the camera faced towards me.

Awkwaaaaarrrrd….

Darn it!

As you can see, it is unlikely that I shall meet with success in this ๐Ÿ™ƒ

My second goal is to change slightly the focus of my blog. I want it to be more about what I’ve learnt over the years rather than what we are actually doing day in and day out with my final two students.

As mentioned, I will be writing an informative post to go along with my (probably non existent) YouTube video. I’d also like to write some research based posts about something to do with homeschool/education.

You may or may not know that I am currently studying for a Masters in Childhood and Youth Studies and I’d love to share snippets of all I’m learning. I’m finding it so interesting and learning so much!

My third great big goal is to self-publish my novel. I have no idea if it is any good, or if anyone apart from my family will want to read it, but it is not doing anything tucked away in the echelons of my computer. It still needs editing and proof reading, but sometime between now and next Christmas I would like to get it published.

My last great big goal is the same goal as it is every day of every year. I want to lose weight.

This won’t come as any surprise to anyone.

Least of all me.

I shan’t bore you with the details, only to say I may check in every so often and update on how I’m doing.

But I may not.

As you can see, these are pretty whopping big goals for the year ahead. I also have lots of small ones, but I’m not so concerned about achieving those. I’ve shared these because accountability is a thing and it might be the one thing that pushes me to succeed.

What are your New Years resolutions?

  1. My New Year’s Resolutions 1- Watch your YouTube channel faithfully 2 – Purchase your book and read it immediately upon receipt. I expect it to be autographed personally ๐Ÿ˜‰ So there, now if you don’t follow through on your resolutions, I can’t follow through on mine and that just wouldn’t be right!!! Love ya!

  2. I wish you the best of luck! I too tend to be timid in front of a camera (nevermind a video camera!) but I have long since realized that I am waaay more critical of myself than anyone else ever is. I think it’s great to push ourselves outside our comfort zones every now and then.
