This week’s Mr Men school was all about Mr Tickle and what a fabulous week we had, with so, so many activities. I am exhausted and the little ones still keep asking for ‘more Mr Men-ny activities, pleeease Mummy!’. Needless to say, it has been a huge hit and I’m not at all certain I can keep up! This is what my littles have been up to, in addition to All about Reading preschool (B2) and Level 1 (A5), and their daily bible study.

Magazine Work
You know sometimes in life when things all come together in a way you couldn’t possibly have envisioned at the start? This is how I feel about this Mr Men school. Just weeks after deciding to use Mr Men as the basis for our school this year I came across the very first edition of a new Mr Men magazine that is to be published every two months over in the UK. Each publication will come complete with two Mr Men or Little Miss toys. I was so excited and intend to utilise every single solitary bit of each magazine this year! And you will never guess the character they focused on in their first edition? Yes, Mr Tickle! How cool is that? So I had A5 fill out the double sheet all about Mr Tickle, stickers and all:
This edition also came with a free poster outlining all of the characters. I will be using this to create a new Mr Men themed chore chart to go in the girls’ room to replace the one that is there at the moment.
Maths
This week we primarily used the Mr Tickle number tool box:
The girls counted, threw dice, ordered numbers, made up number puzzles and wrote their numbers. I am glad to say it was a hit and well worth the work it took to create it:

In addition A5 did a Mr Men puzzle I had found for 49p:

Science
The science of orange
- Mixing red and yellow food colouring to create an orange mixture:

- Mixing the traditional yellow and red paint:

Art
- Junk modelling: the girls built a Mr Tickle from junk:

- Using Wiki sticks to recreate some of the Mr Men characters:

Play Dough
The girls made some fabulous Mr Tickle models:

Textiles
- Creating a Mr Tickle from felt body parts onto a felt board. For this activity I had created a ‘Make a Mr Men Character’ kit:
Each week I will add the body parts of the Mr Men or Little Miss character we are studying that week. For now though the girls simply played with the one character they had, Mr Tickle:

Cooking
- Mr Tickle Tortilla pizza
- Home made Mr Men Chocolates

- Choc chip biscuits and apples (from book):
Mr Tickle Activity
I thought for a bit of fun the girls could make their own Tickle sticks. I cut out, from sticky back foam, two Mr Tickle shapes for each girl, one back to front (it was to be stuck onto the other Mr Tickle shape); two hats, one back to front and gave each girl and Chinese chop stick:

We have a week off next week and during that time I’ll be sharing how we school at angellicscalliwags. After that it’s back to Mr Men School with Little Miss Bossy. I shall be modelling the whole week on me!
Fun! That junk model looks great, and so creative !
Thanks Marie!
I love the play dough Mr Tickle, he’s fab!
Isn’t he? I so enjoy watching their little imaginations create!
I want to come to your house for school! I loved the Mr. Men books when I was a little girl (ahem… that’s a long time ago now!) — and I love seeing you using this as the spine for your homeschool. And yes, how perfect that the magazine came out and featured Mr. Tickle right off!
I love reading your blog each week!
Thank you Mary!
Looks like you had a fun week!
It was a very fun week!
I am telling you, I am going to find those books and put them up for one of these days, then I am going to copy you! The girls look so happy with all of the Mr. Men activities. I especially liked mixing the two colors with the paper towels as the wick. Never thought about doing it that way. Once again, you have shown just how creative you are, Claire. You should win an award for the homeschool mom with the most creativity! I do wish you could package some of it and send it to me. Most days I feel like a lump:/
I am looking forward to next week.
Have a most excellent Friday and weekend.
I completely understand the lump feeling, it is how I feel most mornings!
Looks like SO much fun! Will drop you an e-mail soon. Been lovely, but we have all been sick and now better, but it took a 2-week chunk out of our time together. Grateful we are through it though. Loving the Mr Men theme! You are SO clever!
Bummer! I can’t believe you were ill now! That is not good timing on the account of the virus!! (I’ll have words with it). So pleased you are feeling better and it’s lovely to have you back!! (Looking forward to your email)
OMGOsh those Mr Tickle and Mr Men books are sooo cool . I have never seen them in the US! What fun Science also this week!
Thank you Melissa!
