Nature Study: Our One Year Pond Study Week 13: Just Playing Around

Welcome to week 13 of our one year pond study.  For the rest of the posts in this series please see here.

We had great plans this week of doing some water study.  T11 gathered jars for water collection, thermometer for taking the ponds temperature, pH paper…you name it we had it.  Only when we got there the weather was so glorious and the pond so peaceful, we just played:

All our old friends were at the pond this week:

The Canada Geese were fishing

The turtle poked his nose up to say hello
The terrapin poked his nose up to say hello
The ducks were pecking around

The moor hen was nesting

And then the Heron swooped in and then flew off again:

So very little actual study was done.  Instead we did a whole heap of playing!

  1. Sometimes you just have to give in and simply appreciate and enjoy nature! You’ve taken some lovely photos of your children and some great one of the wildlife. I’m sure the water study can wait another day, thanks for coming over and sharing with Country Kids.

  2. Now let me see – playing in a wonderful park – religious studies (enjoying God’s creation), physical education (all of that playing and exercise), science (plants and wildlife), social skills (interacting with each other in a positive way), health education (all that vitamin D), and the list goes on. Oh, you “did” school and plenty of it – paperwork and experiments are not the only way to “do” school. We enjoy the outdoors at every occasion possible ourselves and do not feel guilty about it at all. 🙂
