After we arrived back from our pond study this morning, the older girls kindly offered to cook up a storm in the kitchen for lunch whilst T11 and I got down to the business of setting up the science nook. This week I had planned to let the littles discover what happens when vinegar is mixed with Bicarb. As my theme is colour, this week I coloured the vinegar different colours and placed them in test tubes. In the larger containers, jugs and so forth I placed a load of Sodium Bicarbonate:

I then set up trays with all of the above and pipettes, spoons, stirers and a turkey baster to share:

After that, we were pretty hands off and allowed the littles to experiment as they liked and experiment they did:

But, as is always foremost in my mind for our learning experiences, it was the bestest of fun!

This preschool science is working out better than I possibly could have imagined!

Clever girls. Well done Thomas for helping them. Looked like you had fun.
A4 looked at me in total amazement when I told her this was school we were doing! She obviously couldn’t believe school could be such fun!
Such fun-I love the googles and white coats really professional.
I know! I ummed and ahhed about getting them, but they have so been worth the money, and should last for years. It gives the whole science thing a special something!
Very cute. Love those outfits!
Thanks Hwee! I’m wondering if I should get myself one?!
I seriously love your test tubes. I need to get some for a theme for next month…..
The ones I have are large, with lids and as far as I can tell very good quality.
I love the cute, cute photos. They are learning good skills for future science explorations, too.
And they are learning how much fun investigative science is. They are loving it!
Wow, totally blown away, I love the lab equipment you have. I am sure they find learning so much fun!
I do hope so!
I’m looking forward to improving the fun food I cook with ideas from your blog, so keep them coming!!
I have to ask, where did you get all the cool science gear? 🙂
Thanks
I got them from Amazon. In my first post I included a photo of the box they came in:

Very nice. Enjoyed all the pictures. This totally proves young children can do science and enjoy it. 🙂 I know my preschooler would love it and you’ve practically convinced me to give it a try with my toddler too! 🙂
I’m so pleased! My toddler really enjoys it and is very attentive (unusual for her!)
This is awesome. I love the outfits and they way the little kids had chemistry experiment table to go along with the big kids chemistry experiments.
My FAVOURITE time of the week. Too much fun squeezed into one hour!
