Preschool Science Mixing Station

preschool science mixing station

In this lesson, I will be showing you how I created a preschool science mixing station this time using bicarb in solution & coloured vinegar. I kept it simple. My main goal here was to simply expose the children to the fact that bicarb could come in different forms. Right now, they knew the powdered bicarb version and adding coloured liquid acids such as vinegar but I thought it might be fun to show them that bicarb could be dissolved into water to create a base liquid.

Creating a Simple Preschool Science Mixing Station

Check it out!  I’ve already written about our first foray into coloured vinegar and bicarb…in my preschool science colour and fizz post

First, I dissolved some bicarb in a tray of water. This gave us a basic solution of bicarb. I dyed this yellow. Choosing yellow meant that any coloured vinegar, once mixed would create not only a fizz but also a colour change! Next, I set up test tubes of coloured vinegar and a pipette to squirt into the solution.

A4 made small fizzes with her pipette, whilst B2 simply dumped in the whole jar, gave it a good stir and looked on in amazement. Fizzes never get old!!

My little girls so enjoy their science time!

If you’d like to do this in your own homeschool, it’s well worth having a look at my first preschool science post. In this, you’ll find links to the actual science kits we use as well as the very cook mini lab coats and goggles. All of the recommended resources are incredibly robust and well worth the money! We have had years of science-y fun with them, Oh, and they’ve even come in handy with the older children’s science…again, well worth the money 💰
