Lillie’s First Art Exhibition

Lillie's Second Art Exhibition

Lil is in her second year at art university and as part of her assignment she partook in her first art exhibition. This is her post. As I have done in the past, I’m not going to narrate the exhibition. Rather, I would like the art to speak for itself. Just to remind you, Lillie wants to be an art therapist in the future and much of her art is themed around illness, trauma and mental health. I posted the art she completed around her sister’s neurological health problems called ‘Am I Crazy?’. This project was researched using the experiences of a variety of young people with five of the most common mental illnesses (self-harm, depression, eating disorders, manic-depression and anxiety). Fully believing in the healing properties of art, she then tried to communicate these experiences through her art. Lil added a trigger warning to her leaflet, advising viewer discretion. So, I am giving you the same warning.

All proceeds of the night were donated to a local charity who work with mentally ill young people. She raised over £100 🧡

First Art Exhibition:

Business Cards

The first thing Lil did was to design some business cards. I had to smile at these because she wrote ‘Artist, Designer, Activist’. Activist. I like that.

First Art Exhibition

Program

The program gave the appropriate warnings. Inside she included a thumbnail photo of each drawing with a small amount of information:

Art Prints

I have to be honest, I didn’t think these were the kind of pictures one would want on one’s wall! Their message was powerful but they are also difficult to look at. However, there were some purchases but they came with a regular insertion that she wasn’t to expect them to found on the walls of their houses!
