Gary and the children were out at a barn dance, which Gary was playing in a band for. The absence of Gary as a dance partner, my innate introversion and the fact that the house was sitting quiet, cosy and most importantly empty, gave me the impetus to turn down the barn dance for a night in with myself crafting. I knew I needed to do some candle-making at home, but I also added some reading of a few new books, making a small paint palette from polymer clay and some sketching. With marmite toast and steaming cups of Earl Grey tea, I could not wait.

Candle-Making at Home: Equipment
Whilst the instructional part of this post will be in the form of the video below, I thought it might be helpful to have a list of things you need in order to follow along and do a bit of your own candle-making at home.
- A double burner or a glass bowl over boiling water in a pan
- Wax for melting: I used bees wax and soya wax
- Wax for rolling
- Candle wick
- Candle wick holder or a stick of some sort to tie the candle wick to whilst the wax is solidifying
- Candle holders
- A clean and dry surface
The video below demonstrates how I make simple melted candles, as well as an extensive look at making rolled candles. I include tips and tricks to ensure the candles look amazing. If you’ve ever wanted to start crafting, rolled candles has to be one of the simplest ways. Enjoy!
My art channel is becoming a rather more eclectic collection of videos. However, I do still post about my tiny fledgling art business. In fact, this week’s video will be a ‘week in the life of an art business owner’. If you’re interested in that sort of thing, I’d love it if you popped in to take a look at the weekend.
