This week in our Little Miss Bossy book unit, we explored the wonderfully strong-willed and memorable Little Miss Bossy, and what a fun and thought-provoking week it turned out to be!
One of the things I am loving most about using Mr Men and Little Miss as the foundation of our homeschool is how each character inspires completely different learning opportunities. Every week feels fresh, engaging, and full of new ideas.
And Little Miss Bossy? She brought with her lessons not just in literacy and maths, but in character, manners, and relationships too.
Little Miss Bossy Book Unit
Literature: Predicting, Thinking & Engaging

Each day, we read our Little Miss Bossy stories together.
One book in particular created a wonderful opportunity for deeper thinking. I began asking questions like:
- ‘What do you think will happen next?’
- ‘Why do you think she did that?’
At first, this kind of prediction was tricky, but after a few pages, something clicked. Suddenly, my child was excitedly guessing, engaging, and truly thinking about the story.
This is such a powerful (and simple!) way to build:
- Comprehension
- Critical thinking
- Confidence in storytelling
Phonics & Literacy: Learning Through Play

We continued using our Alphabet Tool Box alongside our Mr Men School theme.
One favourite activity included:
- Writing character names (like Little Miss Bossy and Mr Tickle)
- Matching lowercase letters with uppercase magnetic letters
This reinforced:
- Letter recognition
- Capitalisation
- Early reading skills
We also included:
- Daily writing practice
- Reading from beginner books
- Poetry and phonics programmes
Maths: Hands-On Number Learning

Maths came alive through our number box activities.
This week included:
- Rolling two dice
- Finding and writing numbers
- Adding counters together
- Matching answers with magnetic numbers
We also explored time using a themed clock book:
- Setting the clock
- Acting out what happens at each hour
Learning time became active, physical, and memorable!
Science: Exploring the Colour Blue 🔵

Our science focus this week was simple, but surprisingly powerful.
We asked: Can we make the colour blue?
The children experimented with mixing other colours, trying their very best… but of course, they couldn’t do it!
This led to a fantastic discussion about:
- Primary colours
- How other colours are made
- Why some colours cannot be created
It was one of those beautiful learning moments that sticks—because they discovered the answer themselves.
Art: Creative Character Making
This week’s art was all about creativity and flexibility.
Foam Stamps

We experimented with making character stamps using foam:
- A generic Mr Men/Little Miss body
- Separate accessories like hats and flowers
This allowed the children to:
- Recreate known characters
- Invent their own
The possibilities are endless, and I love that this will grow with each new character we study.
Textiles: Felt Board Fun

We added Little Miss Bossy to our felt character set.
With a larger felt board, the children could:
- Build characters
- Create scenes
- Engage in imaginative storytelling
This is such a simple but powerful tool for:
- Creativity
- Story sequencing
- Independent play
Games & Activities: Learning Through Movement
We brought Little Miss Bossy to life through play!
‘Little Miss Bossy Says’

Our version of Simon Says, with lots of giggles and listening practice.
‘Follow My Little Miss Bossy’

A fun twist on Follow the Leader.
These games build:
- Listening skills
- Self-control
- Social interaction
Life Skills: Manners & Responsibility
One of the most valuable lessons this week came from the story itself.
We focused on:
- Saying please and thank you
- Being kind and respectful
Stories are such a powerful way to reinforce values children already know but need to practice daily.
Chore Cards: Real-Life Learning

Inspired by Little Miss Bossy, we refreshed our chore system.
Using simple, child-friendly cards, we introduced tasks like:
- Making the bed
- Collecting eggs
- Changing towels
These build:
- Responsibility
- Independence
- Confidence
Simple Cooking Skill

This week’s practical skill was beautifully simple:
- Spreading butter on toast
- Making cinnamon sugar tortilla
Small steps like this lay the foundation for lifelong independence.
Revisiting Learning Through Play

We also revisited past characters and activities:

- Puzzles
- Puppets
- Storytelling

This repetition strengthens:
- Memory
- Confidence
- Deeper understanding
