Bicarb and Coloured Vinegar to Make the Colour & Fizz

In this particular week’s preschool science, colour and fizz was the name of the game! I had planned to let the littles discover what happens when vinegar is mixed with Bicarb.  As my theme was colour, this week I coloured the vinegar different colours and placed them in test tubes.  In the larger containers, jugs and so forth I placed a load of Sodium Bicarbonate:

I then set up trays with all of the above and pipettes, spoons, stirers and a turkey baster to share:

Bringing in the Siblings to Help!

Throughout their schooling I have always encouraged the older ones to help the younger ones with their homeschool. It is a wonderful way to encourage children to think outside of themselves, have some un-pressured fun and, of course, build relationships. It has completely paid off because all five of our children, three of whom are now adults, are each other’s best friends.

Thomas, 11, demonstrated what to do
and how to use the turkey baster

After that, we were pretty hands off and allowed the littles to experiment as they liked and experiment they did:

As did A4
So they enjoyed pipetting……
Creating fizzes
Shaking…..
Turkey basting….
Stirred….

and poured….
they even tried turkey basting and pouring at the same time!

Whilst B2 definitely created much fizz…..
It was A4 who won the prize for the biggest fizz!

But, as is always foremost in my mind for our learning experiences, it was the bestest of fun!

The smiles say it all!
Is she not the cutest science EVER?

This preschool science is working out better than I possibly could have imagined!
