If you’re looking to bring joy, structure, and meaningful learning into your homeschool, this Little Miss Naughty Book Unit is a perfect addition to your Mr Men School routine. Using Little Miss Naughty as the anchor text, this week blends Literature, early reading skills, maths exploration, creativity, and character education into a cohesive and engaging experience.
This approach works beautifully for younger learners who thrive on repetition, hands-on discovery, and playful learning.
Little Miss Naughty Book Unit: Literature & Literacy – Building Strong Foundations

We began each day by reading Little Miss Naughty, focusing on the sequence of naughty actions across the days of the week. This naturally led into a rich literacy activity.
Days of the Week Learning

I created a simple A5 “Days of the Week” box to help with:
- Word recognition
- Sight reading
- Understanding yesterday, today, and tomorrow

At first, A5 relied on initial letter sounds to “read” the words. Before long, she was confidently sight-reading and independently ordering the days.
To deepen understanding:
- She placed a “today” clip on the correct day
- Then added “yesterday” and “tomorrow” with full comprehension

We reinforced this with a matching pairs game, which she thoroughly enjoyed (and won!).

Character & Vocabulary Development
To expand vocabulary, I photocopied book covers and separated:
- Character images
- Titles

A5 matched them together, building recognition of descriptive words (since all Mr Men names are adjectives). This simple activity:
- Strengthens sight vocabulary
- Builds early comprehension of descriptive language
We’ll continue adding new characters as we progress, an easy, evolving literacy tool.
Exploring Themes: Choices & Consequences

Using Little Miss Naughty and the Good Fairy:
- We discussed fantasy elements (fairies, magic)
- Compared being good vs being naughty
A5 noticed how goodness spread, even when handled by Little Miss Naughty. This sparked a thoughtful discussion about kindness and influence.
With Little Miss Naughty Worries Mr Worry:
- We introduced consequences of choices
- A5 predicted outcomes by explaining what Mr Worry was concerned about
This gentle introduction to cause-and-effect thinking is powerful for early moral development.
Writing Practice
To reinforce literacy:
- A5 practiced writing her name
- Copied a simple sentence
Short, consistent writing builds confidence without overwhelm.
Little Miss Naughty Book Unit: Maths – Learning Through Play
Our Mr Men measuring box was a huge hit this week.

Instead of structured lessons, I encouraged exploration:
- Handling rulers and measuring tools
- Estimating and testing ideas
Activity Highlight:
A5 guessed which Mr Men character was widest, then measured to check.

This built:
- Estimation skills
- Practical measurement understanding
- Confidence in problem-solving
We also used a themed maths booklet focusing on:
- Counting
- Addition to 10
She completed pages at her own pace, keeping learning enjoyable and pressure-free.
Little Miss Naughty Book Unit: Art, Creativity & Observation
Colour Matching & Collage

Using paint sample strips:

- A5 searched for the closest shade of purple to Little Miss Naughty
- Then cut and created a collage using the strips

This activity encouraged:
- Visual discrimination
- Fine motor skills
- Creative expression

Drawing Skills

We followed simple “how to draw” guides and videos to draw Little Miss Naughty.

The results were fantastic and more importantly, she felt proud of her work. Drawing familiar characters builds:
- Confidence
- Observation skills
- Perseverance
Modelling & Imaginative Play
Using plasticine, the children created their own Mr Men and Little Miss characters.

But the real magic came next…
They turned their creations into a full imaginative play, complete with:
- Storytelling
- Dialogue
- A final “performance”
This kind of play develops:
- Creativity
- Communication skills
- Emotional expression
Textiles: Hands-On Making

We added a “Make a Little Miss Naughty” activity using pre-cut felt pieces.

The children:
- Assembled characters
- Experimented with design

Though they stuck to familiar designs this time, this activity lays the groundwork for future creativity and independence.

Life Skills: Simple Cooking

Cinnamon Tortilla Chips

A quick, child-friendly recipe:
- Spread melted butter on a tortilla
- Sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon
- Cut into wedges
- Bake briefly until crisp

This activity supports:
- Following instructions
- Fine motor skills
- Independence
(Next time we might cut them into Mr Men shapes!)
Looking Ahead
Next in our Mr Men School journey:
- Mr Happy
- Little Miss Neat
- Exploring opposites
Hands-On Activity Ideas
Here are additional ways to extend your Little Miss Naughty Book Unit:
- Create a “naughty or nice” sorting game
- Act out scenes from the book
- Make a weekly behaviour chart linked to choices
- Build a days-of-the-week hopscotch game
- Design your own Little Miss character with a new adjective
- Use baking to explore sequencing (first, next, last)
Reflection Questions
Use these to deepen understanding and spark conversation:
- What naughty thing did Little Miss Naughty do that surprised you most?
- What happened because of her choices?
- Can being kind change what happens next? How?
- What would you have done differently in her place?
- What does “consequence” mean? Can you think of an example?
- Which day of the week is your favourite, and why?
- How can we spread “good cheer” in our home?
This Little Miss Naughty Book Unit shows how powerful themed learning can be. By weaving together Literature, play, and real-life skills, your homeschool becomes a place where learning feels natural, joyful, and meaningful.
