A Huge Hygge Hug

I am enjoying my foray into Hygge-ism.  For those of you who don’t know, Hygge is pronounced in much the same way as we say sugar (hoogar) with a hole in your mouth which you can fit your little finger into.  I keep repeating to myself.  There is a simple comfort in the word.  I like how it feels on my tongue, and how it sounds to my ears.

Hygge is a Danish word which can not easily be translated accurately into English.  Loosely it means something akin to a feeling of well being and coziness.  But to try to translate it thus is doing it an injustice, for it is so much more than that.  A small word, it describes an all encompassing feeling of contentment.  And it fascinates me.

I am reading my way through all of my hygge books.  Yesterday I finished the Hygge and Kisses novel, one of my Christmas presents from Gary and I finally felt that I really understood the essence of hygge, and the togetherness which is at its centre.

It has made me even more determined to make some changes to our life.  Lighting, music, food, heating, colours, textiles, books, past-times, the ambiance of a home, the relationships between the people who live there……hygge covers everything.

❤️ I am engulfing our lives in a huge hygge hug ❤️

  1. I’m looking forward to seeing how you implement Hygge in your home. Candlelight alone seems to calm everyone and add something special to the dark winter days.
