Being an international reviewer on the TOS crew, many of the print products aren’t available to us due to the exorbitant postage costs. When the lovely people at The Old Schoolhouse decided that even international reviewers were to get an actual hold-in-your-hand copy of the Hey Mama! Print Schoolhouse Planner 2016-2017 I nearly passed out with excitement!
The planner arrived just in time for me to begin planning for the coming summer. I gathered together all the supplies I needed for my summer of writing and settled down with a cup of tea to an evening of school planning.
As I began flicking through my new Hey Mama! planner I realised this book was so much more than just that. It had all the usual planning sheets for 36 weeks worth of school planning as well as:
- Goal sheets (monthly, semesterly and yearly)
- Attendance charts
- Books read
- Curriculum planning sheets
- Contact lists
- Academic transcript sheet
- Check list and skills learnt
- Calendars for 2016, 2017 and 2018, which I find really useful because I tend to plan a year or so in advance.
- Writing prompts
- Story starters
- The thirteen colonies by date
- Timeline of Inventions
- US presidents and their wives
- Government
- United states and capitals
For each month there is a blank sheet:
And a month by month calendar:
In addition to weekly planning sheets:
This spiral bound planner has enough of these sheets for 36 weeks of planning for five children. Obviously if you have more than five children or you school all year round this might not be the right planner for you. That said, we school year round and I will simply be printing out extra sheets for the weeks not covered.
But, for me, what made this planner different to any other planner I had used was the monthly Hey Mama! encouragement pages:
Homeschooling can be tough, and having monthly reminders that what we do matters is a lovely and unexpected addition to a planner. Each month there is a nugget of wisdom to be slowly digested throughout the following four weeks. I really, really liked the ‘Hey Mama’ pages 🙂
The planner has an olde worlde feel about it which is not only quaint but also informative! Each month we are taught about the days gone by…
This is a lovely home school planner, unlike any I have used before. Take a look…. you won’t be disappointed!

Have fun planning! I know that I am enjoying my Mardel homeschool planner 🙂
Oh, if you ever need help with shipping, I would be willing to help in any way I can.
Oh that’s so incredibly kind of you. Thank you so much ((()))
You make planning sound delightful.
Looks nice. I always start with planners and calendars, but end up with lists scattered from here and there only to end up in a notebook. The older I get, the worse I get.:/
I had the digital version a few years ago and loved it for all of the random extra information it included.
The encouragement pages are lovely, and I really like the information ones too! I have a cast iron skillet, I love it. My planner needs are a little different than yours, because I’m not home educating anyone yet, but I love personal-planner.co.uk for mine. My new one will be arriving in the next couple of weeks, I’m excited! If you ever want to get one from Personal Planner, I have a discount code you could use 🙂
